SALIENT FEATURES:

Existing Port is a natural harbour
at the mouth of the Shastri River in Ratnagiri District.
It has two bays viz. Dhamankhol Bay (depths of 7 to 8 m)
and Jaigad Harbour (depths of 12 to 13m. inside harbour)

The proposed port is about 35km. From karbude Railway
Station and about 40 km. From NH-17

The port is located at Lat 17º 18 ON Long 73º 14.

As there is lack of backup space at the existing port,
the Dhamankhol Bay is proposed by CES for port terminal
because adequate flat land is available.

There is a sand bar at the entrance to Jaigad harbour
-
A narrow shallow channel of 3 to 4m of depth is available
south of the sand bar.

One berth (80.6m x 12m) exists at Jaigad harbour with
7 to 8m water depth

10m and 20m contours are about 0.75 km and 6 km from
Jaigad head

CES Study has projected traffic of 3.7 and 4.2 mtpa for
the years 2005 and 2010
respectively
-
Projected cargo consists of coking cola and other cargo
including containerized
cargo

Economic potential: Most
of the cargo traffic expected to be handled shall serve the
needs of the industries located in Satara, Sangli, Sholapur,
Pune and Ahmednagar.
