SALIENT FEATURES:

The present state port of Redi is located immediately
south of Rainy Point in the shelter formed by rocky projections. There
is an old port of Redi, which is located in the creek, northeast of Rainy
Point

Proposed port is about 20 km from Sawantwadi Railway
Station and 35 km. from NH-17. The site proposed by CES is located on
the coast near Redi Village in the Sindhudurg District
- The port is located at Lat 15º 45’. ON Long 73º 39’.

The 10m contour in the open sea is about 0.65 km.
from shore at old jetties and about 1.75 km. from the shore at northern
bay from the present barge loading jetties

Soil investigation report at the proposed site indicate
very soft clay for a depth of 6m to 7m below sea bed which is underlain
by moderate / completely weathered soft laterite / basalt layer of
1m to
10m thickness
- Two berths used earlier for loading iron ore are available

Economic potential: 80% of traffic from Sindhudurg Industrial area and
20% from kolhapur district is expected to be handled. Usha Ispat
sponge iron plant, already setup, shall largely contribute to the economic
potential
of this port, further supported logistically with the nearby location
of iron ore mines. Has excellent prospects of being a viable port |
